A conjunction is a joining word. It joins words, groups of words, or whole sentences together, so that our writing sounds smooth and connected.

Without conjunctions:
Riya likes tea. Riya likes coffee. Riya does not like milk.

With conjunctions:
Riya likes tea and coffee, but she does not like milk.

See how the conjunctions join the ideas into one smooth sentence?

What conjunctions can join:

Joins Example
Words Ram and Shyam are friends.
Groups of words You can sit on the chair or on the floor.
Sentences I was tired, so I went to bed early.
